Wednesday usually feels like the longest day of the week for me. I slog along, knowing there are still another two days before the weekend once I get through today.
This Wednesday is different.
This weekend, Andrew is taking me away for a very spontaneous weekend trip to Niagara Falls. We always go to the Canada side (better prices, kitschy tourist activities, great casinos!) and we always have a blast. We’ve been craving a vacation, but due to lots of major house projects, we just don’t want to shell out the dough to go away for a big trip. A weekend getaway is a perfect compromise!
If you’ve got restaurant faves in Niagara (on the Ontario side) please please please let me know in the comments or via email (thepetitefilet at gmail dot com) – I’d love to hear from you!
In spite of the upcoming weekend excitement, it’s still Wednesday. So I thought I’d share a few new things I’m excited about right now, to help me stay positive until Friday afternoon! I’m not getting paid or compensated or loved up on by anybody to tell you about these products, I just love ’em and want to share them with you.
Lazzaroni bruschette. Their website is under construction but you can read about them on wiki. These adorable little toasts are tiny but flavorful. For 130 calories, you can eat 12 of them! Awesome, right?
Mushrooms. Andrew doesn’t care for the texture of mushrooms, but when pureed (like in this pumpkin soup), he will eat them happily. It’s exciting to be able to incorporate a whole new food into my cooking. I bought baby bellas this week (also called cremini) and I’m excited to use them when I attempt a recreation of a restaurant meal that I loved.
‘Tis the season for pumpkin, and my fellow coffee drinkers are going nuts over “pumpkin spice” everything, especially the offerings at Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. I saw a bottle of sugar-free Torani at the store last night – in Pumpkin Pie flavor! I thought I’d try my hand at creating some pumpkin coffee drinks, see if I buy into all this pumpkin coffee hype.
A half-used jar of pure pumpkin taking up residence in my fridge. It’s a beautiful thing people! The store where I found pumpkin is now rationing it – there’s a big sign indicating a can limit per customer. Luckily, I already have my stash, and if by some chance I run out (not likely) I’m pretty sure they will have it. This pumpkin got used up yesterday on Spicy Pumpkin Madeleines – a yummy treat I will share with you soon!
Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter. Oh, yum! I compared this to literally every other brand on the shelf at my super Wal-Mart (not a fan, but I shop there occasionally for the great prices, plus they have a better selection than my discount grocery store). This peanut butter is a great price AND has a better ingredients list than any of the expensive kinds: Peanuts, Salt. That’s it.
And last but not least, a picture that should make you smile. Unless you hate adorable doggies. Or showers. Or people who fold their adorable doggy’s wet ears back while they’re in the shower and then take pictures because they look so funny.
Don’t forget to give me your Niagara recommendations in the comments!
Happy Wednesday friends!
